Dia Light: an acidic colour system for tone and gloss
Use Dia Light when the service calls for a tone refresh on existing colour or a gloss after lightening. Assess the starting level, unwanted reflect and condition before choosing the shade. On sensitised hair, a colourist should take particular care with porosity and development time so that lengths and ends receive the appropriate treatment.
- Professional demi-permanent colour for tone-on-tone services.
- An acidic formula with no ammonia for previously coloured hair.
- A choice of neutralising and enhancing reflects for blondes and brunettes.
- Used with the recommended Diactivateur rather than a general permanent-colour oxydant.
- 50ml or 60ml packaging may be supplied during the transition.
The acid-gel cream technology is designed to work on the hair cuticle for a smooth, glossy finish. In a salon, the consultation still comes first: identify whether the client needs a neutralising toner, a warmer reflect or a simple shine service.
Shade selection
Choosing your L'Oréal Dia Light shade
Match the exact shade code to the client's current hair colour and target reflect. For a toning application after bleach, assess how light the hair has actually lifted before selecting a cool, beige or warmer finish. A very light shade name does not mean the product will lift a darker starting base to that level.
For refreshing colour, separate the needs of the roots from those of the lengths. Permanent regrowth coverage may be followed by a different gloss service on faded hair. The aim is to restore a suitable tone without automatically repeating the same permanent formula over already processed areas.
Order by the full number rather than the shade name alone. The options include 9.02 Pearl Milkshake, 8.21 Iridescent Icy Milkshake and Clear. These serve different purposes; compare the professional colour chart with the starting base before choosing. Availability is shown for each selected shade.
Mixing & developer compatibility
Dia Light 50ml and 60ml: formula and mixing
The newer Dia Light Hyaluronic Acidic Gloss Colour is described by L'Oréal as containing a 1% hyaluronic acid complex for hydration. During this packaging change, check your supplied product before relying on benefits or instructions associated with the new formula. The stock description covers both pack sizes.
Mix Dia Light with its recommended Dia activateur developer at a 1:1.5 ratio: one part colour to 1.5 parts developer. Measure the actual amount being used: a 50ml tube at this ratio needs 75ml developer, while a 60ml tube needs 90ml. “One tube” therefore does not always mean the same quantity.
For the newer 60ml formula, L'Oréal specifies either 6 vol (1.8%) or 9 vol (2.7%) Diactivateur. Follow the carton and technical guide for the exact version, shade and service. Use the indicated proportions, whether preparing with a bowl and brush or using a bottle. If using a shaker, open it immediately after mixing, as directed by the manufacturer.
For a toning application, apply the mixture to shampooed, towel-dried hair. The current guidance gives 5-20 minutes, depending on the intended result. Other applications have their own instructions. Do not turn the maximum time into a rule for every head of hair; the professional should monitor the service, then emulsify and rinse as directed.
Frequently asked questions
L'Oréal Professionnel Dia Light questions
Is Dia Light a permanent hair colour?
It is demi-permanent, though some retailers use the term semi-permanent. Choose Dia Light for glossing, neutralising and refreshing coloured hair. If the service requires permanent regrowth colour, see Majirel or INOA and use the relevant developer system.
How does it differ from Dia Color?
Dia Color is an alkaline demi-permanent gloss with up to 70% grey coverage in its service range. Dia Light is the acidic option for working on previously coloured or lightened hair. Assess the client before deciding which colour system fits the appointment.
Does the tube include developer?
No. This listing is for the selected colour tube. The correct Diactivateur must be obtained separately. Check your stock before the appointment rather than substituting a developer intended for a different L'Oréal range.
What should I check before application?
Confirm the shade, supplied pack size, previous colour history and condition of the hair fibre. Dia Light is for professional use only. Follow the manufacturer's allergy alert testing, glove requirements and all safety precautions, even when the service is described as a gloss.
