Why choose Majirel permanent hair colour?
- Permanent colour for professional root services, colour changes and grey coverage.
- Up to 100% white hair coverage when the appropriate shade, mixture and application method are used.
- Up to three levels of lift, depending on the natural base shade and the recommended oxydant.
- A hair colour cream that gives the colourist control over placement and saturation.
- A broad shade selection for natural-looking results, cool tones and warm reflects.
For a salon planning regular colour appointments, L'Oréal Majirel offers permanent colour with a clear shade numbering system. Start with the client's existing colour, percentage of white hair and desired result; these determine the formula more reliably than a colour swatch viewed on a screen.
Shade selection
Choosing your L'Oréal Majirel hair colour shade
Use the options on this page to find the exact shade code required for your service. Check both the depth and reflect before adding a tube to your basket. Blonde, brown, copper and red results depend on the starting hair colour, previous colour history and condition of the hair fibre.
For repeat appointments, compare the shade code with the client's salon record. When changing tone, consult the relevant L'Oréal colour chart and assess whether the service needs a base shade, a reflect shade or a separate lightening step. A permanent hair dye does not guarantee that previously coloured lengths will lift to the same result as natural regrowth.
Mixing & developer compatibility
Majirel 50ml and 60ml: mixing and Odour Trapping Technology
L'Oréal Majirel uses a compatible professional cream oxydant; developer is purchased separately. The standard Majirel mixing ratio is 1:1.5, but always follow the instructions for the particular tube and service. Measure the amount of colour being used instead of treating every tube as the same size.
For the newer 60ml Majirel formula, L'Oréal specifies OTT Cream Oxydant with Odour Trapping Technology. Its standard full-tube mixture is 60ml colour with 90ml developer. Older 50ml packaging may have different product guidance, so confirm compatibility on the supplied carton before mixing. Browse our L'Oréal Oxydant Creme Developer options and match the version and strength to that guidance.
The usual development time for a standard Majirel service is approximately 35 minutes. Application sequence and processing requirements vary by service. Professional use only: carry out the manufacturer's allergy alert test before each use, wear suitable gloves and follow all pack precautions.
Frequently asked questions
L'Oréal Majirel: grey coverage and salon colour questions
Is Majirel an ammonia-free hair colour?
No. Majirel is an oxidative permanent colour. Odour Trapping Technology in the newer formula reduces ammonia odour; it does not make the colour ammonia-free. For a different L'Oréal range, explore INOA ammonia-free permanent colour, which requires its own dedicated developer.
Can I use Majirel for grey coverage?
Yes. The range offers up to 100% white hair coverage. The colourist should use the relevant L'Oréal white-coverage rules for the chosen shade family and the amount of white hair, rather than applying one mixture to every client.
Will I receive Majirel 50ml or 60ml?
Either pack size may be supplied during the transition. The shade option selects the colour; it does not select the packaging. Keep this in mind when planning the quantity needed for salon services.
What if the lengths only need a tone refresh?
Assess the existing colour and condition first. A separate glossing service may suit lengths that do not need another permanent colour application. L'Oréal Dia Light provides an acidic demi-permanent option for previously coloured or lightened hair.
